BBC’s See Hear programme highlights the issue with Hate Crimes against Deaf people
The BBC programme “See Hear” has reported on the shocking increase of hate crime within the disabled and deaf communities. The programme, aired on the 5th September, reported on how incidents of hate crime have risen by a third to more than 80,000 in England and Wales. Over 5,500 of these were disability hate crimes which include attacks on Deaf people.
Why is there a shortage of Sign interpreters?

Deaf Schools or Mainstream?
In 1792 Britain's first Deaf school, the Royal School for Deaf children, opened.
It was closed in December 2015. According to the British Association of Teachers of the Deaf (BATOD), the number of Deaf schools fell from 75-21, 1982-2016. From 2011-18, there was a 14% decline in teachers of the Deaf and a 31% increase in demand.
