Diocesan Disability Adviser and Chaplain amongst Deaf People
Have you a passion for nurturing and supporting the faith journeys of those who are deaf or hard of hearing? Are you committed to a church that includes people of all abilities and life experiences, and generates an enriched understanding of God from them? This role is an exciting opportunity for someone to be pastoral, pioneering and prophetic.
We are looking for a candidate who:
- appreciates the spiritual gifts of deaf people and people with disabilities, and desires that the wider church learns from them
- understands the spiritual needs of deaf people, can facilitate their pastoral care and has (or is willing to train in) BSL communication skills up to level 3
- has ‘expertise by experience’ or expertise and experience across a wide range of disability issues
- is both self-motivating and enthusiastic about working collaboratively, and has experience of managing volunteers
- has a proven track record in working effectively within the Church of England
Hours: FTE 37 hours per week
Salary scale: £40,351 per annum
Location: Church House Oxford with the facility to work from home where necessary
This role attracts a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for the appointed persons to be a baptised Christian, lay or ordained, who is a communicant member in good standing with the Anglican Church or a church that is a member of the Churches Together in Britain and Ireland under Part 1 Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.
An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this role
