Post 1: 32.5 hpw.
Based at Bungay High School, Suffolk. This is a new teacher of the deaf role hosted by a school with a strong inclusion philosophy. Your daily base will be at the school however there will be occasional travel to the Riverside SCC building in Lowestoft.
Post 2: 37 hpw. This is a countywide post. The corporate base to be negotiated dependent on home location.
You will be employed by the local authority and be part of the CYP Sensory and Communication Service. The service provides education and social care services to children and young people with a sensory impairment or communication need across Suffolk. It consists of a multi-disciplinary team that includes education consultants, teachers, social workers, and a variety of support staff. The team provides specialist support for 0-25 years of age for children and young people with hearing, visual or multi-sensory impairments as well as those with speech and language difficulties.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for qualified teachers of the deaf to support deaf and hearing impaired learners in Suffolk. Qualified teachers who are deemed to have the relevant experience and skills and who are prepared to undertake the necessary training may be considered. This is a varied role and you could be providing support and advice across the key stages to children and young people with significant hearing loss as well as monitor the effectiveness of the provision made by schools including those with a Statement of Special Educational Needs / EHC plan plus provide specialist teaching advice to both specialist and mainstream schools.
You will develop fully inclusive approaches for deaf children and young people and you may manage some staff that could include: a BSL/English Interpreter, communication support staff, and Sensory Support Practitioners. You will monitor individual deaf learner progress in-line with school based systems, conduct relevant language assessments and you could take a lead role in training.
