Reuben Litherland, 14, who attends Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby, has again appeared on BBC One’s The One Show to talk about receiving an invite to this weekend’s Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Reuben was invited in recognition of his work within the deaf community and for raising awareness of the issues facing Deaf children.

Reuben said he was “really excited and happy” to be invited to the wedding and began to dance around when he heard the news.

“I’m really excited to have this opportunity to go because it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“I opened the letter and I couldn’t believe it…we danced around.

“I think people, when they saw The One Show, were really fascinated in what I am doing.”

Reuben’s mother, Jacinta Litherland, said her son deserved the nomination as he did all the work by himself.

“We didn’t know this was Prince Harry and Meghan’s idea that they were going to invite people who had strong connections with community and were working hard for their community – so we had no idea at all”

“I’m very very proud of him. Of course, he had support – but he’s set his club up himself, he’s taken himself to the front and said ‘I’m Reuben look at me’, and he’s done it all himself.”
