Blackheath Halls Opera is thrilled to present a production of Leonard Bernstein’s extraordinary operetta Candide, first performed in 1956, but based on a 1759 comic novella by the French philosopher Voltaire.
In a production updated to the 1980s, it tells the story of the hectic adventures and extravagant escapades of a young man, travelling through a divided Europe (and beyond), in search of love, happiness and resolution.
This performance brings together a cast of world-class professional singers, talented vocal students from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and committed local amateur performers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, united in their passion for music-making.
