This Scottish Premiere is the winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County will be performed by the Rep’s award-winning Ensemble and directed by newly appointed Artistic Director, Andrew Panton.
A fiercely funny tragi-comedy set in Oklahoma, this roller coaster American drama explores the complex relationships that exist between blood ties. The dysfunctional Weston family are brought together after the disappearance of their patriarch, Beverly. Once reunited they quickly resort to their old destructive patterns and the family splinter once again, more broken than before, with secrets and lies uncovered that have been hidden for years bringing tensions to boiling point.
The cast of thirteen will deliver an explosive script that takes them through troubled past relationships, drug addiction, blood ties and inescapable pasts. This contemporary American family drama will thrill, shock and tear at the heart but it won’t be long before it raises a stream of raucous laughter.
Humour and heartache are in abundance during this family reunion.
If you liked Little Miss Sunshine, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Descendants you’ll love August: Osage County!
