“There is no road to walk for the one who seeks beauty, no ground to wander for that which preaches love. There is nothing but the border.”

Meet Hari and Nor: two guards who have found themselves stationed on opposite sides of the border for six years. In spite of their lingual and cultural differences, Hari and Nor have learned the means to communicate with one another.

Set on the border of two countries at war, Kukunor/Kalahari questions the possibility of making contact with another person despite restriction, whilst dealing with the traumatic realities of war through the world of dreams: represented by the poems of Lauri Viita.

With the same role portrayed by both a hearing actor as well as by a sign language actor, step into the world of Hari and Nor to discover where the limitations of a person’s spirituality, physicality, reality and imagination truly lie.

Kukunor/Kalahari is a Creative Europe project funded by the European Union, presented in both English and British Sign Language.
