This 1956 film tells the story of two deaf-mute dockers living in London’s East End, played by artists Eduardo Paolozzi and Michael Andrews, whose deafness isolates them from the outside world.

This screening presents a new live jazz score commissioned by the Hippodrome Silent Film Festival in Bo’ness. Saxophonists Raymond MacDonald and Christian Ferlaino  perform their new work with percussion.

Afterwards, Raymond and Christian are joined by filmmaker Ted Evans for a panel discussion, to talk about the issues around the representation of deafness raised by the film. Both the introduction and post-screening Q&A are enhanced by BSL interpretation and electronic note-taking.
