Cardiff Deaf Centre building refurbishment fund – they need your vote

The Cardiff Deaf Centre is an old building, built in the 1900s; it was previously managed by the local council and over the years it sadly fell in to disrepair. To reverse the decline the council has allowed the Deaf community to take over the building.

To date, the trustees have embarked on a refurbishment program to breathe new life in to the building. We are looking for innovative approaches that will ensure sustainability of the building for future generations.

Cardiff Deaf Centre - bannerThe centre is used by various groups for a wide range of activities, we have the following clubs that use the building:

  • Cardiff Sport and Social Club
  • Cardiff Deaf Church
  • Cardiff Youth Club
  • Cardiff Creative Hands, a Parent and child group supporting play through BSL
  • Drumming Club
  • Coffee Mornings
  • Art and Craft Club
  • Yoga Club

The building is also used by various organisations for training and meeting. We want this work to continue and by coming first in the Mark and Spencer’s Scheme we can purchase new Solar Panels. All the savings realised through the solar installation will be ploughed back in to the charity enabling us to support user groups further by maintaining low cost rental hire, and low running costs to encourage other service provision.

The number of people using Cardiff Deaf Centre is on the increase after years of decline, we have recently refurbished the front exterior of the building and installed new windows but as the photos show there is so much more work needed to be done. We need to raise at least £50,000 to complete the refurbishment of the building and the solar panels will go some way to support this refurbishment.

We need as many votes possible to ensure we are number one; we have been leading the votes for a while but the other groups are catching up. If all 20,000 people who read this article could vote and support us, we are almost guaranteed to win the competition.

Cardiff Deaf Club - Vote for refurbishmentVoting is really easy and only takes 1-2 minutes of your time. It doesn’t matter where you live, we have had support from Deaf people in Australia, but we would really be grateful for more support from the Deaf community in the UK.
