There’s a stigma around hearing technologies that they’re beige, big and ugly… but this generation is changing that stigma with the new, revamped technologies that are out!
Cochlear implants and hearing aids come in a variety of colours now, and come with accessories. People are even decorating theirs – just like as if they’re a fashion accessory!
Why should hearing technologies be something to hide? It’s like glasses, they were seen as unfortunate to wear, but there are so many different shapes and styles, and even those who don’t need glasses will wear them as a fashion accessory. The hearing technologies give you the wonder of being able to hear, and if you have to live with it, you may as well embrace and flaunt it!
How to decorate…
Firstly, check with your provider/audiologist to check if you can and ensure you know the limits; for example if you damage them, you may have to pay, and not to use glue or nail varnish or anything permanent.
But, you can still make them fabulous with…
- Removable stickers and wraps
- Coloured tubing
- Coil wrapped around the tubing
- Coloured ear hooks
- Coloured ear moulds
- Lugs (decorations which clip onto the tubing, often cartoon characters)
- Ear suspenders
- Headbands (perfect for children who can’t keep them in their ears!)
