New DeaflympicsGB appointments

DeaflympicsGB have made a number of appointments to the support team for athletes at the upcoming Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey which begin in just 118 days time!

Stephanie Dear has been named as Head Physiotherapist. Steph graduated from Kings College London in 2010, after which she began work at Cambridge Rugby Club. After a year as an intern she was promoted to Head Physiotherapist, a position she held for a further four seasons.

This led to her obtaining the Head Physiotherapist role with Eastern Counties Rugby Club and a position with England Touch Rugby. She has also worked with Cambridge University Rugby League and American Football teams and more recently worked with Newport County Football Club and GB canoeing.

Deaflympics GB Chef de Mission Christof Niklaus commented: “We are delighted to have secured the services of someone with Stephanie’s calibre, experience and passion. I have no doubt that she will prove to be a huge asset to the DeaflympicsGB team that we are building for Samsun as we strive to perform at the very highest level in the Deaflympics.”

DeaflympicsGB also recently announced that Renee McGregor & Lewis Kind will be working with athletes around nutrition & optimising performance in the run up to the Deaflympics in Samsun this summer.

Renee McGregor is a Performance and Clinical Dietitan. She has years of experience and expertise in sports nutrition and advises athletes at amateur, professional and Olympic level. She has recently returned from the Paralympic games in Rio where she was working with and supporting the Wheelchair Basketball squads and Wheelchair Fencing athletes. She presently works with a number of the GB endurance, ultra running and 24 hour team athletes.

She is also the author of Training Food: Get the Fuel You Need to Achieve Your Goals ­ Before, During and After Exercise (Nourish, 2015), Fast Food, Food for Running.

Lewis Kind will be supporting Renee in her work with DeaflympicsGB. Lewis is currently studying at Loughborough University after graduating from Sheffield Hallam in sports nutrition. Lewis is also part of the MacNutrition mentor programme and will be able to provide athletes support in the run up to Samsun, Turkey.

Their time and effort will go a long way towards improving the performances of our athletes in Samsun as well as providing a cost effective approach towards the fundraising efforts of our athletes and officials.”

The 23rd Summer Deaflympics will take place in Samsun, Turkey from July 18 to July 30, 2017.
